Almost 99.9% of people in India would go to a meat shop and say "bhaiya, ek kilo mutton dena". But how many of us know where the mutton comes from? Many people would assume that mutton is the goat meat and lamb is the meat that comes from sheep. But what if I say "lamb" and "mutton" both come from sheep of different age groups. "Mutton" means the meat harvested from a sheep above 1 year old, whereas "lamb" is the meat of a sheep that is under 1 year. The meat we get from a mature goat is called "chevon" and the meat of a young goat under 1 year is called "kid" in the culinary world.
