"Bhaiya Ek Kilo Mutton Dena" - Do you Know your meat ? Read this Article to explore more...

Almost 99.9% of people in India would go to a meat shop and say "bhaiya, ek kilo mutton dena". But how many of us know where the mutton comes from? Many people would assume that mutton is the goat meat and lamb is the meat that comes from sheep. But what if I say "lamb" and "mutton" both come from sheep of different age groups.

"Mutton" means the meat harvested from a sheep above 1 year old, whereas "lamb" is the meat of a sheep that is under 1 year.

The meat we get from a mature goat is called "chevon" and the meat of a young goat under 1 year is called "kid"  in the culinary world. There are two more terminologies used especially in West Bengal and Northeast India, "Pantha" (male goat meat) and "Khashi" (neutered male goat meat).

Goat meat is one of the most loved food items among the Bengali community. There are many legendary preparations such as "Kosha Mangsho" or "Goat & Potato Curry" paired with luchi and plain rice, that are relished worldwide.

Difference and benefits: Goat meat is considered to be nutritious than sheep meat as lamb or mutton has a higher fat content. Goat meat is milder than lamb or mutton.

But, let's not dig into more of this culinary jargon. By end of the day what all matters is a satisfying and delicious meal. So, stay connected for more interesting facts and food information; and keep enjoying fresh, tender goat meat from PMS.
